MEET US KAAREN OLESEN, D.O., F.A.C.O.O.G., MHA
Dr. Olesen was born in Iowa and has lived in Iowa most of her life. She completed her undergraduate degree at Boston University in 1991. Dr. Olesen graduated from medical school at Des Moines University-Osteopathic Medical Center in 1997, where she also received her Master's in Healthcare Administration. She completed her OBGYN residency in Flint, Michigan in affiliation with Michigan State University and immediately joined West Des Moines OB/GYN Associates in 2002. She became certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology in 2006 and became a fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists (F.A.C.O.O.G.) in 2007.
Dr. Olesen actively teaches at Des Moines University where she teaches not only in the classroom but also at her office. Along with teaching, her passion is doing mission work. She has traveled to Ghana, West Africa numerous times and is currently on the board for Cornerstone of Hope, an orphanage in Nigeria.
The October 2008 issue of Des Moines City Magazine named Dr. Olesen among the top ten physicians in Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Greater Des Moines community.
Dr. Olesen and her husband have two sons, three dogs and two sugargliders. In her spare time, she enjoys playing with her kids, reading and swimming.
